RIDING PROGRAM

In the past, as a student, I was always in a hurry to jump higher. I thought the higher the fence that I jumped, the better rider I was. Now I look back and wonder how I ever stayed on my horse.....

The riders who join the Stanhope Stable’s Riding Program will come away with the fundamental knowledge and skill of riding and horsemanship. This will provide them with a lifelong understanding for whichever field of riding they may choose Hunter, Jumping, Three-Day Eventing or Dressage.

The basic format for the Stanhope Stable’s Riding Program comes from the teachings of Raul A. de Leon. Mr. de Leon is an internationally acclaimed Instructor in the disciplines of Classical Equitation, Dressage and Jumping. He directed the Westmoreland Davis Equestrian Institute at Morven Park, a world famous school for instructors, from 1984 through 1990. Mr. de Leon counts among his many successful students, Tad Coffin, winner of the individual Gold Medals in the Pan American and Olympic Games. Mr. de Leon has conducted clinics sponsored by the International Equestrian Federation and the International Olympic Committee. He collaborated with the famous coach of the USET Jumping Squad, Bertalan de Nemethy, in the production of the video series “The de Nemethy Method”, where his students and horses demonstrate. The American Riding Instructors Association (AIRCP), of which Mr. de Leon is an official examiner, honored him with the International Instructor of the Year Award.
